We are all driven by energy. Food is digested into our stomach and broken down to make glucose, which in turn is distributed through our bloodstream and used as energy. HOWEVER, energy distribution works in a more complex way to contribute to a more even distribution throughout the body. ATP works to store energy and used as a driving force for nerve functions, muscle contractions, and most of our body functions.
How does ATP work?
ATP is short for Adenosine Triphosphate and is a molecule found in every cell of our body. This molecule stores enough energy to send what it needs to get us to function every day. When you lift your leg, get up in the morning, make breakfast, raise your eyebrows … all these functions are supported by the energy released by the energy molecule, ATP.
ATP is not stored, but created. A healthy body will continue the normal cycle of ATP synthesis and energy distribution. If we were to abuse our body by not feeding it the way we should, not getting the right amount of sleep, over exerting ourselves … we stand the chance of missing a few healthy ATP molecules to do as they should. That’s why we tend to feel more sluggish and perhaps certain body parts eventually fall apart.
How does ATP affect our skin?
Our skin is known as the largest organ of our body. This means it needs a massive amount of ATP to keep it nice and healthy. As we age, ATP production slows down, which is the reason we need to pay more attention to it than we’ve ever had to. Tanning must be done less frequently and watching what we eat must be taken into high consideration.
Our skin regenerates approximately every 27 days. In order to have nice new skin, ATP is necessary to carry out a healthy rejuvenation process. When you see wrinkled skin, it is often the result of cell regeneration in malfunction mode.
How does light therapy rejuvenate your skin?
Light is used to trigger cell activity, which help to produce ATP. Once ATP is produced, it is then activated to help regenerate cells and produce collagen and elastin for plump, younger, healthy looking skin.
